Winter Skin Essentials
Ladies, let’s face it, winter can be downright brutal on our skin. The cold air and low humidity can dry out the skin and leave it looking flaky and dull. To make it worse, taking overly hot showers/baths coupled with harsh central indoor heating can make this even worse, particularly for those like myself who suffer from eczema. This is why I personally like to switch up my skin care routine in the colder months to combat the harsh effects of winter on my skin.
Here are 5 of my top winter skin essentials.
1. CLARISONIC BRUSH
I like to exfoliate my skin all year round but I’m even more particular about it in the winter months. The one pictured here is the Clarisonic Mia 2 brush but I’ve posted a similar one here also from Clarisonic. I love the clarisonic brush because I’ve found it to be even more exfoliating than other mechanical exfoliants. It deep cleans like none other and removes dead skin cells from the surface of the skin, leaving beautiful, glowing skin behind. I like to use this brush at least twice a week.
2. FACIAL OIL
I like using a facial oil along with my nightly moisturizer at night because it amps up the moisturizing properties of my moisturizer. I particularly like this facial oil by Vintner’s Daughter, which I recently started using. It is not only a facial oil but an active serum, with lots of yummy goodness for your skin. This serum contains 22 active botanicals and essential oils such as avocado oil, evening primrose, bergamot and many others. It also smells so good. I used to be leery of using facial oils because I thought they would make me break out but not anymore. Whenever I use it, it just sinks into my skin and makes me look dewy and gives a nice glow.
3. LIP MASK
I hate having dry cracked lips so I always make sure I have a really good lip balm, especially in the colder months. This lip mask by Laneige is amazing! I usually use this at night usually after giving my lips a good scrub, and it leaves my lips feeling soft, smooth and moisturized the next day. Another thing I love about it is that it’s not sticky like some other lip balms. This is definitely a must-have for me.
4. BODY BRUSH
Up until now, the three previous products are mostly face products but this one is for the body. I usually use a body brush for dry exfoliation, meaning exfoliating without anything but the brush. This not only exfoliates your skin by removing dead skin cells but it also improves circulation and may help to improve the look of cellulite, which is always a plus in my book.
5. BODY BUTTER
Who doesn’t love a good body butter? I really love this one by Arome. I love this brand in particular because it’s all handmade in batches and it is all natural. Did I also mention that it has an amazing scent?!?! It smells so good, every time I use it, people ask what scent I’m wearing. This body butter contains great ingredients for your skin like shea butter and cocoa butter, both of which are moisturizing. I love to apply this to my skin after a shower both morning and night. It’s very rich and moisturizing, and it’s the perfect thing to combat the winter dryness.
